Intended to help educational and mental health professionals understand the assessment process used in identifying and evaluating students suspected of having ADHD, this tape repeats the five-stage assessment model developed by George J. DuPaul and Gary Stoner in their 1994 book ADHD in the Schools. Specifically, these steps are screening, multimethod assessment, interpretation of results, intervention planning and implementation, and intervention evaluation. Via filmed sessions between school personnel, staff personnel and parents, and intervention team members; discussion of various ratings scales; and classroom visits, we see the model in action...well, the first three steps of the model, anyway. The two final steps are covered in yet another $95 Guilford Press video entitled Classroom Interventions for ADHD. Though the program includes a 31-page booklet which provides background and detail about the measures discussed on the tape, $95 seems a bit expensive for a video that a) seems to be a regurgitation of parts of a 1994 book, and b) doesn't stand on its own (both because it doesn't include all five steps, and because it doesn't provide nearly enough detail on the three steps it does cover). Not recommended--circulate the book instead. Aud: K, E, I, C. (K. Glaser)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
