Hosted by Designing Women stars Richard Gilliland and Jean Smart (whose "pregnancy was followed by millions on TV" says the box, and we say "who--besides the millions--cares?"), Baby Talk is a superb and comprehensive overview of the multitude of questions new parents face which delivers straight answers. Written by a team of doctors and nurses (and including interviews with professionals), the show is divided into ten chapters, which cover a variety of topics: a first look at your newborn; baths, nail, and umbilical cord care; diapering; breast and bottle feeding; sleep (and lack of); personality and development; crying; illnesses and doctor visits; and taking care of oneself after childbirth. The production values are excellent, the color-coded chapters make pertinent sections easy-to-find, the information is up-to-date and wide-ranging; in short, this is the best baby care video we've seen since Your Baby: A Video Guide To Care And Understanding With Penelope Leach (reviewed in our September, 1990 issue). Winner of a 1992 National Educational Film & Video Festival award as well as a 1992 CINE Golden Eagle, Baby Talk is highly recommended. Editor's Choice.
