As a mother of a four-month-old, this reviewer only wishes she'd had a handy DVD like this around the house during those first few weeks of severe sleep deprivation and panic attacks brought on by parental inexperience. Not only would I have learned how to dress my wiggly son in a "onesie" without nearly popping his arm out of its socket, but I might also have discovered how to correctly trim his fingernails, and thus avoided the shock of finding scratches on his face. Addressing most general aspects of newborn care through step-by-step lessons, specialists (including registered nurses, pediatricians, and lactation consultants) explain various conditions and outline procedures in more than 30 topics related to general care, feeding, health and safety, and postpartum care, as well as answer common questions (e.g., frequent hiccupping is okay, really). A user-friendly video that will take fumbling, nervous parents through common tasks and situations--dressing an infant, inserting a thermometer, breastfeeding, using a car seat, etc.--in an effective format, this handy guide is highly recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
