Children's favorite plum-colored pal Barney the dinosaur serves up more lessons and corny fun in Read With Me/Dance With Me, a never-before-televised double-program compilation featuring the B-man and two groups of lip-synching youngsters. In Read With Me, Barney and the gang launch a book drive to expand their caboose hangout library. While putting away some donations, Baby Bop picks out a few books of interest, inspiring the gang to perform several scenes from the stories and later make their own books. Songs include “Books Are Fun,” “What Will We See at the Zoo?”, and “When the Circus Comes to Town.” The Dance With Me section brings back Barney alumni Min to help illustrate different boogie down techniques. Naysayer B.J. is adamant about steering clear of his sister Baby Bop's ballet moves, but ultimately can't resist the urge to join in all the fun as the rest of the crew learns about special attire (like kilts and serapes) and dances to jazz, country, and hip-hop, with songs such as “You Might Like Something New,” “Happy Dancing,” and “The Gaggle, Giggle, Wiggle Dance.” Saccharine, but bubbly, and sure to be popular, this is recommended.
