Featuring professional baseball players Doug O'Neill and Dan Cholowsky, this instructional video guides viewers through the basics of hitting. The production values (uneven sound, etc.) aren't always great, but the players teach fundamentals in a direct, no-nonsense manner, demonstrating everything from the physical components of hitting (proper grip, stance, etc.) to the mental aspects of the game (clear your mind of all outside distractions when at the plate, etc.) This tape should be of value to young baseball players, and should be considered by libraries without similar and less expensive fare (such as Professional Sports Training for Kids: Hitting with Ken Griffey, Jr., reviewed in VL-3/91). Four additional titles are also available: Glove Work, Behind the Mask, Grand Theft (on stealing bases), all priced at $29, and Equipment Guru, priced at $19. Recommended. Aud: J, H, P. (S. Fisher)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
