Concentrating on the physical transformation from girl to woman, this video combines explanatory graphics, interviews with doctors specializing in young adult medicine, and a panel discussion featuring women from ages 14 to 30 to explore topics such as menstruation & tampons, breast & pubic hair development, and pelvic exams. Commentary during the panel discussions and expert testimony help to demystify and demythologize the confusing, yet common experiences of young girls entering adolescence. The accompanying teacher's material is simply a short question/vocabulary guide, so this video most likely will be supplementary to an existing health science/sex education curriculum. Production values are high, but the price is a bit steep, especially since similar material exists for less (see Growing Up for Girls [VL-7/95]). Recommended, with reservations. The other two titles in the Becoming a Woman series are: Making the Right Choice: Safe Sex Myths and I Am What I Am. Aud: I, J, H. (E. Gieschen)
