Now in its fourth edition, Birth Control: Myths & Methods examines all of the usual birth control methods: pills, IUCs, barrier, and sterilization, as well as the newer patches, rings, female condoms, and emergency contraception that wasn't around in the good old days (i.e., ten years ago) of earlier editions. Abstinence is singled out as the only 100% failure-proof birth control method, which should please conservative teachers and viewers. Unfortunately, the discussion begins with monthly hormonal contraception (i.e., the pill), not necessarily the first choice for teens, due to both prescription requirements and the comparatively high cost. By the time the script gets to the condom-for-him, spermicide-for-her solution, some students may have decided it's all too complicated and expensive, and opt to continue playing baby roulette. Maybe the simplest and cheapest alternatives can be addressed first in the 5th edition. Recommended. Aud: H, P. (R. Reagan)
