Glenn Roller and Karen Leonard host this entertaining and informative monthly guide to what's new in the aquatic world of boating. Comprised of boat evaluations, reviews of accessories, news & editorials, a used boat guide, and special reports, Boating Today is fairly high on the glitz scale, but it also packs a pretty informative punch. Although we were a bit leery about the boat evaluations (which we suspected might be outright ads), our fears were unfounded. The crew didn't really have anything but high praise for the 47' Atlantic Motor Yacht (then again, at $363,095 the damn thing should be able to play requests), but on the 1992 Mainship 36 Sedan (a mere $118,660), they noted that the overhead hatchway was difficult to reach, as well as a few other less than optimum design flaws. The "special report" on offshore racing with the champion Panama Jack team was interesting, especially as it focused on the "human" side (stress on the family, financial challenges, etc.) rather than opting for simple race footage. The biggest problem we had was with the incessant music (used everywhere). Otherwise, this video magazine is a winner.
