Providing a very basic sign language vocabulary intended to help "bridge the gap" between the deaf and extended family members, A Sign of Love is divided into eight sections covering, among other topics, the manual alphabet, family and relationships, school and work, emotions and thoughts, life on the street, and the church. While deaf host Annette Pitts seems very sincere, the overall production quality is quite poor, the editing is choppy, and the program does little more than simply present vocabulary. At the end of each section Pitts offers a "test," making a number of signs; unfortunately, since the answers aren't given, viewers would need to rewind the tape to find out if they were right or wrong. Considering the wealth of excellent sign language videos readily available on the market, such as How to Talk to a Person Who Can't Hear (VL-3/98), this low-budget effort is not recommended.
