Created by Coach Greg Brown of the University of Colorado, this instructional clinic for defensive backs opens with a brief testimonial from Buffaloes' Head Coach Bill McCartney, followed by a series of nearly two dozen coverage "plays" for defensive backs. Using brief demonstrations, accompanied by game footage examples, Brown's overlaid narration tosses out terms like "ink," "orc," "swim," "ghost target," and more, in rapid succession. No real introduction to Brown's defensive philosophy is given, and the "plays"--with names like "Inside Open Hips" and "Fake Bale"--are usually shown from one angle, without slow-motion, or instructional arrows. The second half of the program, which covers common mistakes and demonstrates drills does utilize slow-motion and arrows. The bottom line here is that Bump & Run does not use the video medium to its best advantages, and the instruction itself is geared at college-level players, making this unsuitable for younger players or pigskin devotees in general. Not a necessary purchase. (Available from: 3rd & Long, P.O. Box 1349, Boulder, CO 80306-1349; (303) 492-5331.)
