Although some might quip that the term "business ethics" is an oxymoron, this program reminds viewers that ethics are an increasingly large part of business in a global marketplace. Drawing on examples such as violence in children's games, depletion of natural resources, and the exploitation of "Third World" workers, Business Ethics...A 21st Century Perspective makes it clear that corporations need to think through the consequences of their decisions. Divided into segments on defining and teaching ethics, the difference between temptations and ethical dilemmas, and resolution principles (the ends-based model of John Stuart Mill vs. the rules-based argument of Immanuel Kant), the program also provides guidelines for making ethical decisions and implementing a company's core values. Finally, it makes the case that adherence to ethical principles pays off in the long run, since ethically minded companies retain employees, obtain more customers and increase the bottom line. A valuable business video with surprising depth for its short length, this is highly recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (S. Fisher)
