Travelers who think that spending a few weeks touring Europe will put a financial half-nelson on their savings accounts will be delighted to learn that for as little as twenty bucks a night, families can stay in three-star campgrounds with amenities that might include a playground, pool, games, and even live entertainment. Combining general information and helpful specific tips, host Jim Perry travels across Europe with his family in this money-saving (and rather low-budget looking) guide featuring segments on planning, guidebooks and maps, renting or leasing a car (with a new European delivery program, travelers can even buy a car, pick it up in Europe for the vacation and have it shipped home after the trip), driving tips, shopping, food, laundry, assessing campgrounds, phone and web access, and more. While the program offers several useful tips (don't skimp on a good sleeping mat, plan on hanging up wet clothes since dryers are scarce in Europe, etc.), the shot-on-the-fly, mostly unscripted, occasionally washed-out looking program doesn't actually show Europe off at her best (and Perry's indulgence in a pair of puerile visual gags--reading a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue while his family erects the tent; hastily tossing away a matchbook with a woman's phone number on the cover--don't really show this traveling "dad" at his best either, one presumes). Some good information, poorly presented, makes this an optional purchase. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
