Oh no! The yuck-meter has just alerted super goofy hero Captain Yuck that three children are about to consume a junky meal of hot dogs and who knows what else! He's off to the rescue, taking the kids on a journey through the Food Pyramid, where they meet a representative on each level (a baker in the pasta/grains level, the Big Cheese on the dairy level, etc.). Relevant information such as definitions, serving amounts, effects on the body, etc., is humorously offered, often at length. The concept is good, but the presentation is so-so. Acting abilities vary from terrible to not-so-bad, and the combination of live-action against sketchy stills sometimes doesn't really work. Although the whole video is about the food pyramid, we never actually see a visual with the levels identified in the video (the only picture was in the teacher's guide, which itself contains a few basic ideas and questions for classroom use). The "food pyramid" concept of nutrition is a crucial one for grade-school level health education, and this video might be used as a different introduction or supplement to such a unit. Optional. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
