This short program is aimed at (and sometimes viewed through the eyes of) young people experiencing three common career phases: those already employed, but unhappy in their current jobs; those not yet interested in a career, but wanting to make some spending money; and career seekers with definite areas of interest, but unsure of how to get started. Viewers are advised to first perform a self-assessment: consider personal interests, rank priorities, and build a personal skills inventory (which skills are unique and specialized to particular tasks, and which can be applied to a wide range of jobs?). Most importantly, commit to paper (actual or electronic) the findings, including a career mission statement. Finally, the program advises viewers to evaluate their skills and aptitude through professionally-developed outside tests such as the Holland Self-Directed Search, and presents tips for researching career paths, including making a visit to the library (websites are also suggested for further research). An accompanying study guide contains simple self-assessment exercises. Recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (C. Block)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
