In the half-hour Careers in Art, 13 career paths are introduced via interviews with successful professionals in their workplaces. Some are expected, such as fine artist, photographer, and craftsperson; others are a bit more out-of-the-box, including urban planner, gallery owner, and custom framer. Jobs in design are covered separately, as industrial, interior, fashion, graphic, and publication design (the title cards incorrectly identify the last as “production” design, which is another job entirely), while other interesting choices include architecture and art education. Each interview is followed by a list of related careers in that particular category. The program seems to serve more as an inspiration than to actually provide practical direction; the interviewees speak honestly about what they do and why they enjoy it, but only a few mention required education or skills, or offer advice for success. Although affordably priced, this video is recommended with reservations, as viewers will need to find practical and related follow-up information on their own. Aud: H, C, P. (E. Gieschen)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
