Produced in conjunction with Lamaze International, and divided into four segments, Celebrate Birth! discusses what to expect in a Lamaze class, offers a montage showing natural labor and childbirth, follows one woman's childbirth experience, and provides tips on how to move when pregnant. Since the script assures women that they already know how to give birth via “an inner wisdom that comes down through the generations,” the final segment's demonstrations of how to get in and out of a car, a bed, etc., are perhaps superfluous. (I've been getting in and out of a car since I could walk and being eight months pregnant doesn't interfere with that skill). Although well-rounded collections should definitely have a reasonably up-to-date video on Lamaze (there's less emphasis on the importance of husbands as labor coaches, maybe because Lamaze now certifies its own labor coaches, called "doulas"), this is rather pricey for a how-to/overview. Recommended only for those with larger budgets and without related videos, including InJoy's own The Miracle of Birth (highly recommended in VL-7/98). Aud: C, P. (R. Reagan)
