Weak production values hamper the effectiveness of a pair of new videos on weaving fibre rush chair bottoms. Chair Rushing With Jane Nelson (a follow-up to Chair Caning With Jane Nelson, reviewed in our July-August 1992 issue) is the lesser of the pair, offering a brief introduction to the required tools, followed by a basic demonstration of weaving a chair bottom. The close-up camera work is not as good, nor the instruction as detailed as in the earlier tape.Chair Weaving With Fibre Rush, taught by Linda Hickman, has the same washed-out low-budget look as Chair Rushing With Jane Nelson, but the instruction covers much wider ground, including how-to take old rush out of a chair, splicing fibre rush, and suggestions for adding a finish. During the actual chair rushing instruction, the close-up camerawork is better, and includes more tips and techniques. The two other titles in Interlace Productions' chair weaving video series are: Chair Caning--The 7-Step Method and Application of Pre-Woven Cane.Chair Rushing With Jane Nelson is not a necessary purchase. Chair Weaving With Fibre Rush is recommended for libraries without similar fare. (R. Pitman)
