Character: Friendship Basics

Part of the Character series, this Telly Award-winning guidance program offers tips on making friends, keeping friends, and even ending a friendship. Hosted by warm and energetic adult Wes Halula, Friendship Basics features very practical advice illustrated by a couple of teens. The main message here is straightforward: namely, to obtain good friends, you have to be a good friend, and the program discusses how to do just that, providing both specific examples (“if you say you're going to call someone, call them!”) and general insights (such as the importance of reciprocity). Ending a friendship is tied to the idea that people change, so friendships change too: if shared interests diverge, sometimes it's better to respectfully say goodbye.
