In this talking head (or is it painting hand?) video, watercolor artist Charles Reid, who specializes in portraits, paints a watercolor of his wife and daughter as we peer over his shoulder. As he sketches and then paints, Reid talks about his philosophy of painting, from the importance of light, color and composition to the methods of working toward characterization. Geared toward beginning to intermediate audiences with an interest in watercolor portraiture, this rather slow moving but competent re-release of a 1989 production is a strong optional purchase for collections in need of additional titles on the subject (and who don't already own this one). Another title, Charles Reid: Flowers in Watercolor, is also available. Aud: C, P. (L. Goldberg)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
