Jazz fusion great, and winner of 6 Grammy awards, Chick Korea, is the instructor for this informal keyboard workshop. Beginning with his philosophy of study, which draws on the ideas of L. Ron Hubbard, Chick plays Bach's "Goldberg Variation #1", a couple of his own compositions, Cole Porter's "Easy to Love", and Duke Ellington's "Mood Indigo". Throughout, whenever he makes a mistake, which he terms "glitches", he goes back to correct it, and only then moves forward toward establishing a flow in the music. The last half of the tape is devoted to composition, and Chick goes through the process of composing a piece called "Long Fall", which, along with session musicians, he plays as the program's finale. Although the level here is described as beginner to pro, the ability to read music is a requisite for practicing the compositions reproduced in the 60-page accompanying booklet. An excellent program, sure to inspire serious musicians. Highly recommended for public and school libraries.
