You think applying for a job is tough? Try applying to college these days. Choose Me follows seven juniors from a suburban New York high school as they fill out applications, visit campuses, take the dreaded SAT, and wait for the anxiety-provoking acceptance (or rejection) letters. Viewers will hear the young adults' opinions on competition, finances, the essay and the interview, as well as advice on how to choose and be chosen. By the end of the program, some had landed precisely where they hoped they would, and others had not. An interesting tape to watch from the human angle (I found myself rooting for the kids to succeed), Choose Me would have benefited from additional information about finance options and college selection tools. Well made and enjoyable, this tape is appealing but not as useful as, say, the older How to Pay for College (VL-5/93). Recommended, with reservations. Aud: H. (E. Druda)

This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
