Who among us ever has enough material on "colleges" and its longtime companion "scholarships"? How I wish something like this video had been available when I was in the throes of academic indecision. In accessible, inspirational fashion, the expected issues of college majors, location, size, student body characteristics, selectivity, campus activities, religious affiliation, and public vs. private colleges are discussed. The program also addresses areas that are not so expected: If you are an athlete, will you see any actual court time in a Division I school? If your politics are liberal, will you be able to survive on a historically conservative campus? Can your degree just as easily be obtained from a two-year school? Particularly effective are the interviews with actual college students, and the brief application tips interspersed throughout. Although a bit high-priced (college advisory tapes often run in the $29.95-$39.95 range), this 2-video set is highly recommended for libraries without similar fare. Aud: H, P. (K. Glaser)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
