Although America has a long and honorable tradition of inviting others to become U.S. citizens, the INS interview process is very tough, especially in a post-9/11 environment. Designed to help applicants prepare for the challenge, Citizenship: Success at Your INS Interview provides a step-by-step walkthrough in a real-life setting, offering tips for each phase of the interview, which--not surprisingly--begins in the waiting room. In more than 20 dramatized interviews, the video summarizes the types of questions asked, including personal information about place of residence, work, family, membership in political parties, taxes, arrest record, recent trips outside the U.S., and allegiance to the government. Viewers will learn the criteria on which applicants are evaluated: ability to speak, read, and write in English; knowledge of U.S. history; possession of good moral character; and an understanding and embracement of the U.S. Constitution. In an excellent interactive feature, viewers are given the opportunity to take a "practice interview" (with the interviewer pitching questions directly at the camera, followed by a pause for answers). In addition, the program includes sample dictation practices, and pointers on appearance, demeanor, and dialogue techniques. An excellent preparatory video for immigrants aspiring to become U.S. citizens, this is highly recommended, even for those who already own The INS Citizenship Interview: Will They Pass? (VL-1/02).
