Built around the framing device of a young dancer named Chloë's interest in ballet, Classical Art of Ballet: Basic Positions and Movements combines narration, graphics, and archival footage on the origins, history and evolution of ballet, with demonstrations of the basic positions and movements, as well as tips on the alignment of hands, head, torso, legs and feet, and the four positions of arabesque. In addition to Chloë's work within a dance class, moves are also demonstrated by ballerina Veronique Saouter, and clear explanations (helpful for French terms such as plié) and terrific graphics are used throughout. Pointers about facial expressions, elegance, pointe shoes, and flexibility are also offered. Highly recommended. Aud: E, I, P. (J. Williams)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
