With dozens of Pilates programs on the market featuring modified, customized, and personalized workouts, poor old Joseph might not recognize his own method today. In Classical Pilates Technique, master instructor and voiceover teacher Bob Liekens takes personal responsibility for maintaining the true legacy of Joseph Pilates and therefore keeps the workout “pure.” In addition to the master instructor, this "film" features a "commentator" and three "soloists" performing the "wonder method." Once you strip away the somewhat pretentious verbiage and monikers, however, viewers are treated to five solid Pilates workouts: modified basic, basic, intermediate, advanced, and super advanced, each consecutively more difficult. Beginning with basic centering and breathing techniques, the workouts feature the classic roll up, leg circles, the “saw,” the “criss cross,” and the “snake twist,” among other poses. Viewers aspiring to finish the entire series can use this program for years and still have a ways to go (we're told that the "super advanced" is rarely achieved). A no-nonsense purist approach to traditional Pilates, this is recommended. Aud: P. (N. Plympton)
