These two programs approach, in different ways, the rocky road of transition between high school and college. In the first program, noted seminar speaker David Becker outlines his strategies for time management (using weekly and semester planning schedules), taking lecture notes, reading and marking texts, and taking essay and objective tests. Throughout Becker stresses a few key principles--notably, the importance of summary and recitation. A 7-page study guide is included with the tape. The other program takes an encyclopedic approach to entering college life, and covers--albeit, more briefly--virtually all aspects of social and academic life: study plans, preparing for exams, learning how to write, where to sit in class, developing your memory, using faculty advisors, etc. There's even a wonderful plug for the library. Although the audience for both programs is beginning college students, the first program is more serious, while the latter more lighthearted and flashy (there are more special effects here than in a Spielberg extravaganza). Both programs are highly recommended for public and senior high and college libraries. (The College Success Video is available from most larger distributors.
