Using a framing device of new parents offering advice to a an expectant friend, this introduction to caring for a baby during the first year is a well-produced program that effectively covers all the bases without offering anything new. Separated into coded chapters, the tape offers a list and explanation of the supplies young parents will need (judging from the list this is decidedly an upper middle class baby), briefs parents about preparing the newborn baby's room, compares breast feeding and bottle feeding, outlines the steps for proper physical care of babies, discusses common problems and simple ailments, addresses various day care options, and advises what to do in case of emergencies. Confident Parenting is a good program, with excellent production values, which is, nevertheless wading into an already glutted area (notice the creative title, a smart move which may distinguish the tape from the many other "baby's first year" titles on the market). On the other hand, are there ever enough good baby books andor videos to meet the demand? Probably not. If you want more, Confident Parenting is a good addition.
