State-of-the-art computer graphics enliven this 6-program on one tape series which introduces students to the mathematical concepts of figures we call conic sections (circles, ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas). Using a framing device of a pair of intergalactic travelers, Ed and Charlie, who need to repair their spacecraft to return home, each program runs approximately 10 minutes, and uses excellent graphics superimposed over a graph to plot the various equations for the different shapes. In the final program, students learn some of the practical applications of conic sections in everyday life. A far cry from the "math" films we watched in school, Conic Sections, while not suitable for public libraries, is highly recommended for high school libraries. (See LOOK UP: IT'S RAINING, IT'S POURING for availability.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
