Part of the Considering Your Career vocational series, designed for high school and college students, the three-disc Media Series looks at careers in print, radio, and television media outlets. Interviews with professionals cover topics such as getting started, typical daily duties, work perks, and various challenges, combined with specific personal stories and advice. In “Print,” interviewees include magazine and newspaper employees such as associate editor, prepress operator, and graphic designer. “Television” talks to producers, news anchors (even a weatherman), and one of Ben Stiller's old assistants. “Radio” features trades such as music director and continuity director. Viewers will see interviewees in their day-to-day work, although—for many—duties and schedules can change daily, sometimes affecting free time for family and friends. Featuring additional advice on finishing college, internships, freelancing, and making contacts, Media Series is sure to inspire high school and college students with its informative overviews of interesting careers. [Note: also newly available is Communications Series, which includes “Advertising,” “Public Relations,” and “Marketing.”] Recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (J. Williams-Wood)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
