The fifth title in sewing authority Roberta C. Carr's "couture" series (the others are Couture Techniques For Fine Sewing, Couture Techniques For Sewing Pants, Couture Techniques: Dressing For Special Occasions, and Couture Techniques: Designer Details) was made in response to requests from viewers of the previous tapes and devotes a full two hours to the subject of tailoring. Using color-coded sections, Carr begins with cutting and marking fabric, and then covers interfacing, pad stitching, welt pockets, sleeves and shoulder pads, and collars and lapels. As in previous entries, Carr's style of presentation is authoritative and thorough, and serious seamstresses (and seamsters?) will learn a lot of excellent couture tips from the program and save themselves some real coin while making garments that look fabulously costly. Highly recommended. (Available from: Landes Communications, Inc., P.O. Box 6866, Beverly Hills, CA 90212-6866; 1-800-877-0597.)
