An excellent, accessible tutorial about the wisdom of growing businesses of any size or age by opening new markets and increasing profits--all the while minimizing risk--Creating New Markets is presented before a small seminar audience by corporate-growth expert Peter Meyer, whose low-key approach aided by occasional graphics simplifies complex business ideas that can be equally applied to tech behemoths such as Cisco and smaller mom-and-pop operations. Among Meyer's most interesting points is the fact that identifying new markets where there is little or no competition can allow for setting larger margins, which can make the profitability difference in a company's overall bottom line (Meyer advises charging a higher price on products in a new market without competition). In addition to specific strategies, Meyer also covers basic business principles related to new markets (research is paramount, do not create solutions for nonexistent problems, etc.). Highly recommended. Aud: C, P. (T. Keogh)
