Dating in the 90's is a somewhat misleading title for this drama about a teenage couple with a problem: Brian's ready to try sex, and Christy isn't. Granted, the subject of sex is important to the dating game, but it's hardly the be-all and end-all of dating. A more appropriate title might have been How to Keep Your Beau Out of Your Undies, and Still Keep Him. Sharon, Christy's older sister, gives her sibling good counsel about the understandable confusion over maturing feelings, and the importance of one's self esteem, which Christy, in turn, passes on to her more flirtatious and promiscuous friends. Unfortunately, in many of these conversations, Sharon or Christy sound like professional counselors. For teenagers, the avenue to understanding is often through showing not telling, and Dating in the 90's simply doesn't do a credible job of showing all of the tings it tells. Teens are not likely to empathize with the workmanlike quality of the script. The book Coping With the Dating Game by Michael Dumond is included with the tape. Not a necessary purchase.
