An excellent program (which should be required viewing for teens) on a very timely topic, Dating Violence and Abuse uses vignettes and scenarios to help teens identify warning signs of abuse as well as increase their awareness of different types of abuse, including physical, emotional, and manipulative behaviors. Teens learn that abuse is never acceptable behavior and that there are ways that they, whether as friends or family, can help someone in an abusive relationship. In addition, the program explores the dynamics of developing healthy relationships as teens mature into adulthood. The video includes an extensive discussion guide, script, handouts, questions to stimulate class discussions, and an impressively current annotated bibliography, complete with separate lists of books and journal articles for educators and teens, as well as a listing of related national organizations, hotlines, and websites. Although this essential title for high school psychology or living skills classes is highly recommended for grades 7-12, college age students will find it useful as well. Editor's Choice. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
