Destinations, Etc.: Acapulco

This series of one-hour hotel and travel directories on Mexico take a two-part approach: Part 1, "Sights & Activities" is a video tour through the city, in this case Acapulco; Part 2, "Hotels", describes area hotels by starred ratings: 3-5 star being the range, with "Gran Tourismo" denoting the finest. These ratings are applied by the government, not the filmmakers. Beginning with a general map of the city, the video guide portion takes viewers through downtown Acapulco, and then on to the beaches for water sports, such as paragliding and cliff diving (definitely a spectator sport), and ends with visits to bullfights and discos. As with many of the programs we watched, it is difficult to determine the date of the filming--although the fascination with discos points toward the mid-to- late 70's. Other titles in the series include: Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel, and Cancun. Current production plans for the company include a similar series on Europe. A marginal purchase.
