A bit corny in its approach, but likely to be more interesting to young viewers because of that, Developing Smart Study Skills follows a young student named George through a perfectly disastrous day at school, where the combination of rapidly delivered information from teachers, and poor listening and notetaking skills from George combine to produce zero knowledge acquired for the day. With a little special effects derring-do, George finds himself in Dr. Trust's basement laboratory, where the good doctor sets about "regrooving" George's mind. Brief pointers in the areas of mind-mapping, listening skills (Dr. Trust makes a great point about the student's most potent tool: the "hand", as in raise your hand), taking notes, study skills, test taking, and time management, are given. Although geared for 5th-9th grade students, it is definitely the lower end of the grade scale that will find the program useful. A 20-page teacher's guide is included with the tape. Recommended for elementary schools; for others not a necessary purchase. (Available from: Beacham Publishing, 2100 S St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20008-4011.)
