In this straightforward introduction to drawing, artist Donna Hugh uses simple everyday shapes, such as peppers, shoes and shells, as models to both put the prospective artist at ease and make him or her aware that art is "carefully seeing the objects you draw and knowing them well." Four lessons are contained here: simple contour drawing (outlines of shapes), shadow drawing and shading, drawing using colored pencils, and creating a mixed media still life. With an emphasis on practical issues (what kind of pencil to use, how to sharpen pencils, etc.) and a leisurely pace befitting instruction for beginners, this fine introductory video is recommended. Three other volumes are also available in the series for the same price: Drawing Nature, Drawing People and Drawing Animals. Aud: E, J, H, C, P. (S. Fisher)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
