I am deeply ambivalent about art videos which teach more and more people how to make those cutesy art fair Cracker Barrel country style duck oriented type of knick knacky trinkets. The reason is that I have already received too many of them from distant relatives, many of whom live in or near the Midwest, and I always have to then call and pretend to enthuse about them to Uncle Ed and Aunt Sylvia for hours. But I have also realized that there are literally thousands, probably millions of people out there who just love this kind of stuff. These people are among us, and if you feel they are living near you (look for floral clothing and listen for the phrase "have a nice day"), this video will provide them with all the skills necessary to bombard you with gifts which you cannot return to any store anywhere for a cash refund. Having said this, I must admit that the bird feeder with the blue lilies is quite lovely. And further, Sandra Angelo is a competent and skilled teacher who sincerely demonstrates, in simple easy to follow steps, how to draw with colored pencils. She demonstrates how to make (surprise!) a duck on a piece of wood, a gentleman's jewelry box, a decorated tray and the aforementioned bird feeder. As you begin to hone your skills using this video series, I would recommend you send your work to my Uncle Ed and Aunt Sylvia for their comments, as I have recently moved and left no forwarding address. Recommended. The other tapes in the step-by-step colored pencil series are: Getting Started with Colored Pencils, Special Effects with Colored Pencils, Time Saving Colored Pencil Techniques, Realistic Colored Pencil Textures (VL-9/97), Drawing Your Loved Ones: People, Drawing Your Loved Ones: Pets, and Building a Nature Sketchbook (VL-1/98) (R. Ray)
