Just as The Sacred Hunt is the epitome of pretentiousness, Drury Outdoors is a sort of home video of what hunters are really like. You'll hear no praying for the souls of the dead animal, or wafting on about the glory of being out in nature or any other phooey like that. These guys are after dead things with antlers to mount on their walls. They call themselves "monster buck daydreamers," they "score big ole hogs" and call baby deer "rat bucks." They exhibit orgasmic-like excitement when they shoot, and they shoot to kill every time. Men in camouflage prowl the wilderness shamelessly promoting products like API tree stands, and M.A.D. deer callers. As you watch these guys, you'll be rooting for the deer in no time. Don't. It's like rooting for the teenagers in a slasher pic or having an extended flashback of Bambi. After the first 25 minutes of handheld video of deer walking through underbrush shot from an "excellent" API tree stand and men luring them using an "incredible" M.A.D. deer caller, you may be itching for that FF button. Don't worry, you'll use it when they start showing the slow motion deer kills over and over ad nauseum. Cleverly edited out, of course, are all sections showing the suffering, pain and agony of the dying deer. To the video's credit, the emphasis is on bow hunting which seems far more sportsmanlike than other methods. Still, the best moment of this video is when the narrator unselfconsciously proclaims, "Steve knows that periodic but non-repetitive grunting and rattling at high movement times of the day can be extremely productive." There you go: a new treatment for constipation! Commercial, repetitive, and graphic, this is not recommended. Aud: P. (R. Ray)
