For kids--and adults--who love horses, this delightful step-by-step video can help budding artists graduate from drawing crude stick ponies to creating living and breathing dimensional horses with personality. Elementary art instructor Cordi Bradburn has a smooth, calm style as she leads viewers through six lessons, beginning with basic drawing shapes, after which Bradburn shows artists how to reveal eyes, mouth, hair, and mane in increasingly realistic stages. In addition to horse and pony heads, the instruction covers bodies (at rest and in motion), horses with “attitude,” and fanciful beasts such as Pegasus. Throughout, the program offers many cutaways to real horses for viewers to observe, and a helpful “pause and draw” graphic appears at key points to remind viewers to pause the program and complete the present step before going on to the next one (as a bonus, the DVD also features a Spanish language track). Highly recommended. Aud: E, J, H, P. (C. Block)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
