This is a well-produced, straightforward approach to effective study strategies. Based on the "Readak" program, which has been in use since 1957, the on-camera hosts discuss note-taking skills, pre-reading, and the popular S03R system (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review). Using a mock classroom, the hosts demonstrate various situations that students are likely to encounter (such as an instructor who is speaking too quickly), and outline ways to get the most out of each lecture. Summaries following each section provide an excellent review of the main material. Covering, as it does, a wide range of study skills, Effective Study Strategies is a good package approach to an area that is becoming increasingly flooded with new titles. Highly recommended, for those libraries without similar programs. (Available from: ARC, 148 Great Road, P.O. Box 222, Acton, MA 01720-0222.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
