Hoping to keep “the American dream” from turning into a nightmare, this Spanish-language (with open English captions) title is divided into two portions, the first dealing with immigration issues and the second covering encounters with the police. Offering solid advice from attorneys, consular officials, and police officers, viewers are warned to beware of “services” claiming to provide immigration papers for a fee (also, while American notary publics can witness and sign documents, they are not the same as “notarios” in Latin America, who have legal training and can represent others in court), and offered suggestions on where to turn for help with immigration-related questions—including the public library for Spanish-language books or websites such as www.USCIS.gov. Viewers are also alerted to the importance of keeping the phone number of the consulate handy at all times, and the program covers what to do if an individual faces deportment. Highly recommended.
