Kind of a strange little exercise tape, Family Fitness One opens with a brief sketch about a family of couch potatoes who are suddenly transformed into fitness bugs. After holding hands and looking vaguely uncomfortable on camera, the "family" goes through an unusual 23-minute aerobic workout consisting of movements adapted from popular sports such as basketball and football. This is followed by a short pep talk on nutrition, and then a speech from executive producer Rick Gale. Born with cerebral palsy, Gale was determined not to let his condition stand in the way of his enjoying physical fitness, and his remarks are inspiring...right up until the extended advertisement starts for "Family Fitness One" T-shirts, tank tops, sweatshirts, and water bottles. Not a particularly good or comprehensive exercise program, Family Fitness One is also a little too heavily into merchandising. Not recommended.
