Fashion Model

It never ceases to amaze me, but videos about fashion (which one would automatically expect to be fairly glitzy broadcast quality items) are consistently lackluster affairs with so-so video and a minimum of flash. Fashion Model does not break the mold. Although there are a handful of tips presented by producers' Karen Tobiason and Belinda Butler (both veterans in the industry), the lion's share of this brief video belongs to a demonstration of runway modeling techniques. Three models offer demos on the stance, the walk, and the pivot, followed by a guide to the more popular modeling "turns." On the plus side, Fashion Model, unlike similar fare we've reviewed (such as the Modeling series in our October 1991 issue) actually provides some real instruction as opposed to mere jabber about the glamour of the profession. And, the actual runway techniques shown here are of much greater practical importance to the aspiring model then reeling off annual earnings figures for top models. But most of the meat about modeling is included not on the video, but in the Fashion Model manual which accompanies the video--information which is also readily found in other printed materials. Still, because of it's precise instructions--presented, nevertheless, in a rather mundane way--we recommend Fashion Model, with reservations.
