Hosted by guitarist Steve Kaufman, Flatpicking Through the Holidays uses the theme of holiday music to not only teach specific guitar numbers, but also demonstrate a simple and effective way of layering beautiful flatpicked notes based on the chord structures of each song. As he builds each tune in an easy to follow fashion, Kaufman also covers the nuances of techniques such as hammer-ons and the "cheater's F chord" (a fingering position that is a little easier to switch to from certain chords). Songs include: "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" (Valentine's Day), "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" (St. Patrick's Day), "America the Beautiful" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic" (Independence Day), "We Gather Together" (Thanksgiving), "Dayenuand" and "Who Can Retell" (Hanukkah), "Winter Wonderland" and "Jingle Bells" (Christmas), and "Auld Lang Syne" (New Year's Eve). An excellent supplement to general guitar instruction videos, this seasonal sampler is highly recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (C. Block)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
