This is one of the most unpretentious films I've ever watched, and even though I do not count myself a fisherman, I would sure love to spend a few hours with Grover Prowse. This is one simple, down-to-earth guy who loves what he does--fish--and who has the ability to share his love with others. No fancy bells or whistles, no cute camera shots, no dizzying graphics, no stuffy narration; what you get is Grover showing you how he ties his flies, goes fishing, cleans his catch, and (yum!) cooks them. That's it! In a half hour viewers are shown most everything they need to know about catching and cooking panfish, and then Grover goes home. Of course, the simplicity of the video is also its major drawback; this presentation is designed for those who take their fishing seriously and is not intended for those who don't know the difference between a hook and a barb. Any public library located near a river or lake, or with a fast-moving collection of books on freshwater fly fishing will find this title a popular item. And, Grover, if you need a grandson, give me a call; you look like the perfect instructor, fishing companion, and all-around champion tale-spinner. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Carlson)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
