Part of the 12-volume series Math For Students, designed to help students in grades 4-7 bridge mathematics with more abstract algebraic concepts, Fractions: Concepts & Operations, hosted by two engaging teens, defines relevant vocabulary (improper fraction, mixed numbers, etc.), while presenting the rules and shortcut tips for working with fractions using the standard four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Snappy editing, short but meaty segments, and real-life vignettes with ‘tweens making cookies or sharing pizza all help maintain student interest, as viewers are encouraged to solve problems in various ways (sometimes visually, sometimes doing simple pencil-and-paper math). An excellent introduction to or review of fractions, this fast-paced program assumes prior knowledge of basic concepts (numerator/denominator, common factors, etc.). Other titles in the series include: Algebraic Thinking; Data: Collection, Organization & Graphing; Decimals: Concepts & Operations; Geometry: Triangles & Other Polygons; Integers & the Coordinate Plane; and Ratios, Proportions & Percent. Highly recommended. Aud: I, J. (E. Gieschen)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
