Here's a factoid you might want to consider before making that next stuffed minivan run to the landfill: 60 million people spend over 1 billion dollars annually at garage sales and your junk could well turn out to be (cliché alert!) another person's treasure. Based on the book of the same name by Michael and Pam Williams, Garage Sale Magic! guides viewers through the basics of planning, pricing, advertising, and running a successful garage sale. Narrated by actor David Leisure (in an annoying sing-song, syrupy Robin Leach voice), the program is essentially a low-budget effort combining footage shot during actual garage sales, a vanilla music soundtrack, and the aforementioned grating narration. Much of what viewers will learn here is common sense; still, the specific tips on pricing and negotiating alone will make this worthwhile for most viewers and there aren't many other titles available on the topic. A better choice is How to Have a Moneymaking Garage Sale (VL-9/87), but it's probably long unavailable. A 1994 title, the tongue-in-cheek named How to Have a Yard Sale and Lose $1,000 is also available, but unseen. Sure to be popular, Garage Sale Magic! is recommended, overall. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
