Legendary golf master, Gary Player, hosts this in-depth, informal look at one of America's favorite pastimes. Primarily aimed toward the "weekend warriors" who could use some help with their handicaps, Player's instruction is conveniently time-coded on the back of the tape for ease in finding relevant sections (provided, of course, a patron can do the necessary math). After a brief introduction, in which Player discusses the various swings and playing styles of the likes of Nicklaus, Trevino, Snead, Palmer, and Hogan, he begins with the grip, and moves on to the stance, back swing, down swing, hook and fade shots, wind shots, wedge play, chipping, and putting; as well as addressing specific situations such as playing from the rough, off slopes, in the sand, and out of divots. Throughout, Player's personable style and wealth of anecdotes make the instruction both worthwhile and pleasant. Our only complaint was that the tape quality was only fair, and some of the inserts are very small, and difficult to see. Otherwise, recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
