Though ostensibly geared towards both ends of the high school spectrum, these two programs are so very nearly identical that it would be wasteful to purchase both (the second tape is three minutes longer, but otherwise the same.) Using a frame device of three high schoolers (a jock, a younger girl, and one older girl) who discuss the pros and cons of various approaches to applying for college--along with some rather silly throwaway material, apparently designed to hold teen interest--the program takes the camera behind closed doors, so to speak, to show students exactly what goes on when admissions officers decide on the suitability of applicants. In addition to discussing the admissions process, both tapes discuss the issues of finance, choosing a large or small college, and preparing an admissions portfolio (application, recommendations, test scores, transcripts, and personal essay.) Both programs are professional, and likely to be watched by students. We recommend the second, longer program for school and public libraries. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
