"It is very important not to choose a limp and unresponsive gecko" we are told at the beginning of this tape, and I suppose, in this respect at least, geckos are a lot like men (actually, many men might like the additional advantages of night vision, sticky toepads, and unblinkable eyes). Host Carolyn Seitz presents, in a knowledgeable and engaging manner, every aspect of caring for your gecko, including how to choose a non-limp one, how to set up and clean a living environment, and how to keep your reptile healthy. Geckos live up to 15 years and require a fair amount of responsible maintenance; leopard geckos are emphasized here, as tokay geckos tend to bite (and any parent with a child considering the spontaneous adoption of a gecko should probably watch this tape first). Regarding the video's title, Getting Stared with Geckos; after spending quite a few weeks staring at the ceilings of Bali (where geckos are practically an icon), and watching their prodigious all night upside down mating sessions (not covered in this tape), I must admit that the problem is not getting the geckos started, it's getting them to finish. In this respect, perhaps they are less like men then I at first thought. Extremely informative and well organized, this tape is highly recommended. Aud: P. (R. Ray)
